Expert Review

4.1
/ 5.0

The Rebel D/Lab (SLS with Aluula frame) is a genuine step up from the standard Rebel SLS — more direct, more rigid, and rewards average riders with bigger, more consistent boosts and impressive hangtime. It's not a kite-loop machine, and the Aluula durability question mark plus elbow-punishing pull on longer sessions are real concerns. Against the Evo D/Lab it's a lateral move rather than a clear upgrade, with a larger sweet spot but less loop-friendliness.

Pros

  • +Larger sweet spot makes consistent big boosts more achievable for average riders
  • +Improved rigidity from Aluula frame adds direct, connected feel through the bar
  • +More hangtime rewards than standard SLS, especially in gusty conditions
  • +Well-balanced bar pressure-to-power ratio gives better kite awareness in loops
  • +More stable in strong winds than typical 3-strut kites
  • +Noticeably more enjoyable overall experience than standard Rebel SLS

Cons

  • Slower looping speed and more yank than top loop-focused kites; not loop-progression friendly
  • Extended sessions and heavy looping cause noticeable elbow joint strain
  • Aluula longevity remains unproven; resale value on second-hand market is poor
  • Does not clearly outperform Evo D/Lab in raw lift, hangtime, or low-end
  • Premium D/Lab price hard to justify over Rebel SLS given similar performance ceiling

Best for

Intermediate-to-advanced freeride big-air riders who want consistent height and hangtime over technical kite-loop progression.

Not for

Riders focused on kite-loop progression, double loops, or anyone with existing elbow/joint issues who sessions for 2+ hours.

What they said

hello and welcome to part two of my Duo te Rebel range comparison please check out part one if you haven't already where I discussed my time on the EVO dlabs and then start this comparison by covering the last couple versions of the Rebel SLS kites also very quickly if you like these reviews and want to contribute to me being able to make more you

Bottom line

in summary I really enjoyed all of these Rebels and would likely take them over a lot of the other Big Air Kites on the market right now but thankfully for my wallet they are not quite enough to make me want to jump away from my evos just yet if I didn't already have these evos or they got damaged so much that I would need to replace them I would definitely still get another 10 or 12 M Evo D laab I believe and in the 8 m size I'm not 100% sure but I might actually go for the 8m rebel SLS uh over the rebel DB mainly because of the cost difference but also the potential resale value and its life
